The classic amongst classics of British lorries, I'm sure it needs no introduction.

I would be interested to know if anyone knows the whereabouts of any photos of the grey coloured 8-wheeled AEC Mammoth Major tippers that ICI used in the Buxton, Derbyshire area, during the 1950s/1960s. They had two large hooks on the tipper body behind the cab, obviously, they had no hydraulics on those models! They also had sliding cab doors. These trucks were loaded to the hilt with limestone, and roared like nothing else on earth, on those buxton hills!

In the late sixties I drove Mammoth Major NCW 675 and TRJ 913, for J&J Makin of Rochdale, both trucks supplied by Tillotsons of Burnley, fond memories of reliable machines.

This a really good photo
the firm I worked for in the late 1960s saunders trans plumstead s/london, bought some of these from guinness, park royal they were really nice, some they changed to oil tankers, 2 into tippers they looked, and sounded like brand new, was I proud to be given one, the very first load it got stuck on the site, I reached for the difflock, none found it was a single drive, to the third axle, totally useless as a site truck I tried to use it for a few days but asked to go back to my old lorry and was refused so I left
