BEDFORD J - Probably a J6 but without seeing the vehicle I can't be sure. Dating from 1960 and petrol-engined as so many trucks were 50 or so years ago. J6s had a Gross Weight of 10 3/4 Tons giving a Legal payload in excess of 7 Tons and often carried much more. This truck is probably fitted with a Bedford 300 cu. in. 6 cyl. engine of around 94 hp with a Bedford 4 speed gearbox. Crossply tyres were the order of the day then of course. Following the mid-70s launch of the TM series, all Bedfords were re-designated. The J6 became the TJ 1090 (10920 Kg Gross) and became an export only product often in CKD (kit) form with a 330 cu. in. diesel engine of 98 hp. Other than the use of Perkins Phaser engines for the last decade, these trucks changed very little during their 40 years of production. Only the Bedford grille/bonnet markings changed to give a mere clue to the vehicles age. The TK series may have been dominant in the UK but in many parts of the world the TJ was, and sometines still is, a runaway success.

March 2013 Classic and Vintage Commercials - XCE 407 J6 with 300 Petrol engine.

Its a J5. XCE 407 is a Cambridgeshire registration & was initially restored by P Pallet, Great Chishill, Nr Royston, Herts. who acquired it 11/06, passing to Brian Whiteside of Wimborne in 11/08 who put it into Maidment livery.
I think the original owner may have been Drage of New Buildings Farm, Great Chishill in 1960
