512 JFC Commer TS3 Ballast Tractor.

1960 DVLA says 1390cc but the board says 3 1/4 litre which sounds more likely.

This lorry would have been supplied and serviced by Moyles Garages of Preston Paignton, Woodwark and Sons Ltd.Commer/Karrier Rootes Main Dealers.
The Two Stroke Diesel was a light and powerful, boxer configuration. When going up long hills the oil deposits in the silencers used to overheat and catch fire shooting flames from the tailpipe!
To get the heads off a long 6ft tensile steel bar was needed and a special 3.5ft torque wrench. I have seen nuts go flying across the garage, still have them. The chassis steel was of better quality than Fords and Bedford's this is why many are still with us.Hauliers aspired to a Commer or Karrier.

A Qx but with a later cab. New to Brs at Oxford. Later TS3 engines were of larger capacity than the originals.
