Frank Ellis was my father(died 1976) and I Have a framed copy of this photo on my study wall and some others.Intrigued to know who got hold of this one.I was named after my father Frank W.L.Ellis and worked for him but I Left the business in 1975.I started my own haulage business in 1976 with 1 truck and sold the fleet in 1996+now live in Spain.

Interesting comment, William would this have been a horse box or cattle truck as stated by Tractor Paul, thanks.

The vehicle has a detachable livestock body Pav and was used for any kind of livestock but my father's invoice headings always said "Cattle Haulage Expert" and he always did all the livestock markets in the area i.e. Worksop, Retford, Doncaster, Newark most of which are closed now! On non-market days, or when there was no livestock to move, the vehicles would move agricultural produce. There was a saying in the area "Ellis for cows and cowsheds"!!

Looking at the photo I think that it was taken just up the road from Ellis's yard on the Doncaster road, the dark shape in the background over the bonnet that looks a hill is, I believe the "tip" from Harworth colliery. My very good Friend Brian Bowskill was the fitter for Frank Ellis.
